A review of current topics to include the CIIA Financial Services Code, how to conduct an effective claims audit and a practitioner's perspective of model risk

The full speaking panel and programme for the forthcoming Seminar will be:

  • CIIA Financial Services Code – Unique Insight on its Development and Sector Perspective 
    • Harjeet Powar - Director, Internal Audit Advisory – Ernst & Young LLP
    • Manav Soni – Insurance Senior Manager, Internal Audit Advisory – Ernst & Young LLP

Following the refresh of the CIIA Financial Services Code, Harjeet and Manav will provide a unique insight into the updates to the code and leading practices from across the sector. Harjeet supported the independent committee refresh of the CIIA Financial Services Code and will provide insights and perspective into the changes and committee discussions and deliberations.

  • Conducting Claims Reviews – Lloyd’s perspective
    • Judith Hall – Senior Review Manager, Syndicate Capability Oversight - Lloyd’s
    • Jane Hopkinson – Review Manager, Syndicate Capability Oversight - Lloyd’s

The Syndicate Capability Oversight team at Lloyd’s conducts onsite reviews of managing agents against a number of the Lloyd’s Minimum Standards, including the Claims Minimum Standards. Judith and Jane will share their experience of conducting Lloyd’s Minimum Standards reviews focusing on the approach taken to claims reviews.

  • Model Risk – A Practitioner’s Perspective
    • Elizabeth Cabrera – Head of Capital Modelling - Talbot Underwriting

Elizabeth is responsible for the Internal Model at Talbot, ensuring it is fit for purpose. She will provide insight into how model risk is managed at Talbot without hindering model use and innovation.

  • GPDG Project Update

The Group will present an update on its project work.

Registration will be from 9.30 am and the Seminar will open with the Chairman’s address at 9.50 am. The morning will conclude with an open panel discussion session and will be followed by a buffet lunch.

Elizabeth Cabrera joined Talbot Underwriting in 2013. She has over 15 years work experience in the general insurance sector, where she has undertaken a variety of roles covering reserving, pricing, risk, capital and business planning both in the London markets and overseas. Elizabeth graduated in Statistics from the University of London and was awarded the Medhi prize award in Mathematics. She also holds an MBA from Henley Business School.

Jane is a member of the review team with experience and expertise in claims handling and claims management across various lines of business within both the Company and Lloyd’s markets.

Harjeet is a director in the Internal Audit practice at Ernst & Young and supported the independent refresh of the CIIA Code.

Manav is a Managing Director within Grant Thornton's Business Risk Services practice leads. He has over 20 years of experience in the Professional Services environment, and is experienced in matters of risk, compliance, internal audit and internal control corporate governance. He has extensive experience of helping clients enhance and expand their internal audit capabilities - through providing advice on industry good practice and helping clients in successfully delivering internal audit transformation programmes.

Manav leads the Insurance internal audit co-source and EQA / QA solutions in the UK and has expansive experience of oversight and management of a number of outsourced and co-sourced internal audit arrangements with multinational financial services clients. He has also delivered a number of EQAs and Section 166 Skilled Persons Reviews (commissioned by the PRA) for large and complex multinational insurers.

Manav has served in a Head of Audit capacity for insurance clients with outsourced internal audit arrangements and has helped Internal Audit functions develop and grow through leading Internal Audit transformation programmes covering aspects such as Internal Audit strategy, governance, products, skills and resources, methodology / working practices and reporting and MI.
